Meta will lay off roughly 600 employees within its artificial intelligence unit, a spokesperson confirmed to CNBC.
The cuts did not impact employees within TBD Labs, which includes many of the top-tier AI hires brought into Meta this summer, people familiar told CNBC.
The layoffs are an attempt by Meta to continue trim the department and further cement Wang’s role in steering the company’s AI strategy.
Following the cuts, Meta’s Superintelligence Labs’ workforce now sits at just under 3,000, the people said.
So, 1/6th of their AI devs were bloat?

First these companies start to invest in each other, and now layoffs. Surely there is some bubble-bursting beginning to show here, or is it just me?
Feels like they just hired up the talent pool to keep them from working for competitors.
