Bavaria wants to equip its authorities with Microsoft 365. Critics expect license costs in the billions and warn of the loss of digital sovereignty.

Of course Bavaria. Everyone one else in Europe is thinking about moving away from US companies but Bavaria is killing of OSS initatives to move to the MS cloud…

    • Bavaria is also opposing the ban of combustion engines by 2035
    • Bavaria was leading the abolishment of naming of meat like products like “vegan sausage” or “vegan burger”
    • Bavaria is openly opposing renewable energy efforts
    • Bavaria gives a shit about climate protecting iniatives
    • Bavaria is repressing political left and ecological groups

It really is. Nürnberg, München and Starnberger See are lovely though. Possibly other places too. But there’s simply too much old money trying to cling to the status quo and not let go.

Their tone might have been a bit sarcastic, but was neither condescending nor insulting.

I for one would like to know why GDR would be more likely than other parts of Germany to adopt these policies.

I think it all boils down to saying “GDR is the antipode to progressive politics”. Which, to me (a huge ignorant on GDR politics) is a rephrasing of “communism=bad”.

Thankfully I can distinguish between communism, authoritarianism, progressivism, conservatism, and whatnot. But, for some reason, the former-GDR lands consistently align with conservative policies.

The stupid ones are the people who keep voting for this party, though. Have a Hitler quote for that: “How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don’t think.” (apparently meant without sarcasm)

The politicians are just self-serving assholes.

          1. it’s systemic. There’s no representative democracy without some degree of corruption.
          2. People are alienated from politics: they think that it’s the politician’s job to do politics and disengage (until they feel they get screwed over)

              Exactly.

So the only viable strategy (for system that’s screwing us over) is to make the people believe that “there is no alternative” to neoliberalism.

Well yes because lobbying is an actual part of getting the message out to representatives. You’re advocating for them to do something. In itself there’s nothing wrong with lobbying but people just always associate it with quod pro quo corruption shit.

Reminder: Microsoft relocated their headquraters to Munich after they scored the win to abandon LiMux, the first OSS project in a big city. This is just the return on investment. Works very well in a state that doesn’t care for high level corruption.

Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don’t overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don’t post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don’t troll nor incite hatred. Don’t look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia’s List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don’t question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add “/s” when you’re being sarcastic (and don’t use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don’t evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don’t post uncontextualized images or videos, and don’t start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

  • on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons)
  • on Middle-East topics: Al Jazeera

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don’t show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
