Hamburg-based firm Skysails, the leading pioneer of high-altitude wind power, went bust

    I don’t know about the rest or Europe, but in Sweden the building of wind power has grinded to a halt.

    The reason: too low electricity prices.

    Because all wind power plants produce lots of electricity at the same time when it is windy, the prices are pushed so low that no wind power producer can make a profit anymore. Thus nobody wants to expand or build new wind farms.

    Infrastructure investments and (cheap) short term power storage is needed before wind power can expand more. Low electricity prices during ideal wind conditions are currently the bottleneck for wind power.
