Well, no. Merz and his party campaigned for harsh austerity. Once it was clear they’d be in charge of forming the government, austerity was off the table and a debt based plan for spending up to 1 trillion € was drawn up. Only thing is: The people themselves still get austerity. The money is mostly going to be spent on tax breaks for the rich.
And he is not even one of the more intelligent conservatives, he’s a Grade-A grifter and drifting towards fascism like a stanced Supra.
I’m still wondering how he could get elected…
A lot of Germans wanted Merkel’s stability and strong economy back.
It’s either him or the AFD, I’m guessing
He’s a banker, like Macron.
