And yet:

These “feel good” Europe articles are exactly that, but you guys are a hair’s breath away from voting in nationalist right wingers. And getting closer by the day.
I don’t know a great solution, other than banning Big Tech; for the love of everything please ban US social media at least. But I’ll tell you what isn’t a solution: celebrating little moves such as this, as if the EU heading in a good direction. It is not.

True, but it is not a ban of US social media that would solve the problems.
In most of the EU countries people started to vote for the right wings becasuse the left wings failed hard, and people choose the alternative.
I mean, last week in Italy the left wings “justified” the fact that 3 people that attacked a policeman with a hammer during a demonstration are already free, they “justified” the fact that a man with a list of felony is still free om the streets and sucker punched a woman on the street. Do you really think that voters see this and think “Wow, these are the politicians I want to run my city/region/state” ?
And it is not a problem of immigrant vs Italians, in the first case the 3 guys where italians, in the second it was an immigrant.Or maybe you’re spoonfed lies by fascist parties thinking that the left “justifies” it.
The far right is full of corruption, oligarchs, rapists and predator apologists. Fuck off with that shit.
The establishments believe this stuff too, they think they can indefinitely continue to run as the status quo, selling the population out to the rich and the connected, and not have the country elect a far right, supported by the US and Russia, that fully intends of fixing elections.
We aren’t talking about the far right getting in power for a cycle or two, we are talking about the far right getting in everywhere and all of them fixing themselves, their own parties, in power, and they will become monsters after elections are fixed.
40 percent of Americans support a human trafficking child murdering pedofile.
This is disengenuous. Many European and democratic nations in general have more popular discourse in the mainstream and less overall approval because of multi party systems. In America it is one or the other, where in Canada we have 3 major parties, a growing 4th party and dozens of special interest parties. You are right that far right interests are growing abroad as well. I wonder where that influence is coming from? The same backers funding America’s downfall perhaps?
I wonder where that influence is coming from?
The political suicide of the left in the last 10 years ?
Those same right winners that are supported by both Russia and the USA?
Because that’s literally why those parties are so successful.
Who makes a chart with the numbers in pale yellow on a white background?
A psychopath
Apologies, it was some kind of Windows screenshot tool bug. Here it is again, taken from linux.:

Fixed the original comment, too.
I’d wager it was some kind of HDR rendering bug.
French people are in denial about the dangers of the State going rogue. The laws are already there, there are almost no limits to police powers. The executive branch has unlimited power in practice because of the Constitution being written by a bunch of old men afraid they may some day be deposed.
The justice system is officially bankrupt as well: minor crimes like scamming grannies or stealing bikes aren’t even prosecuted (complaints are dismissed before any investigation).
This is more than just a feel-good article. European leaders have finally realized that the US are adversaries. Statements and articles like these are needed to rally support to finally get rid of all dependencies from them. We in the EU have a democracy after all, we talk to each other and have different opinions. There is no Führer and the rest of the public just following along. Communication and talking are valuable, even if you disagree. Why have so many people forgotten that?
Yeah…
We said the same thing in America, comparing ourselves to places with “less free” political discourse right up to when we voted in Donald Trump in the face of Jan 6 and COVID-19, if our own free will.
Algorithms and demagogues are eating Europe alive.
I’m not trying to criticize the multi-party systems or the good efforts to decouple from the US, but you guys are deluding yourselves if you think that will save you. None of it is going to matter when every single EU member has a MAGA analogue in power.
Friedrich Merz: “Nonsense - you just didn’t bow deep enough and forgot to bring a present
bribemade from pure gold! Let me try to make a fool of my people again.”Macron seeing an opportunity to advance his influence in Europe, aka Macron being Macron.
I’m all for not bowing to the orange shit stick, but I can do with out Macron’s preferred brand of French dominated EU.
Bruh can you give that lesson to US Democrats?
What else doesn’t work is answering the far right with status quo candidates, with them the only ones offering reform.
Macron is leading his country to ruin, just like Starmer is in the UK, and across the west. These guys don’t get it, thinking this is still 1990, or 2010. It’s not. There will be reform, either we give it to voters, or a far right gives it to them, and they are supported by groups that fully intend to help them fix elections just as they are doing or planning on doing in their own countries.
The reform we need is:
• Better labour rights
• Reducing the oligarchy’s influence
• Curtailing of fascist influence and algorithms
• Safeguarding ecologics and diversity
• Massive affordable house building projects
• Lower rent and energy self-sufficency
• Regulating immigration without deportation apartheid for normal people.
• An end to the surveillance state
• Reduction of police powers
• Deporting all fascists to Antarctica. They can stay there for all I care. That is all a hell of a good start. To get there, a populist political movement could easily pick some of the worst offenders, of big business, the rich, exploiting people with impunity. Call them out, personally. Look at what other illegal things the people exploiting working people unfairly do, call that out, promise to fix it, etc. Call out some abuses of the government, and parts of the government abusing their power likewise.
You wouldn’t have to pick a fight with everyone to start. But you would have to pick a fight with some of them. In the US obviously starting with health care and drugs would be a good spot, but there are countless other areas they could go.
France idk exactly, but I know the banks are always bastards, and partially behind upping the retirement age, even while the rich are getting their tax breaks they refuse to pay more to fund the pensions of groups that already paid into their pensions, whose excess paid in was likely siphoned off and spent on such tax breaks, then when there is a shortfall they reduce benefits instead of paying back that excess they in effect stole. I presume. You would know where to start better than I just spitballing here.
Hey, look at that! No subservience to others, only mutual respect. That’s how relationships should be.
The strategy of blocking vital deals with alternative trading partners (Mercosur) will however force us to do some bowing 🤷🏻♀️
