I would be kind of OK if that money (for animal agriculture) would go to research and development of cultivated / cultured meat, and milk and eggs-like products created by precision fermentation 🤷🏼♂️

The 150 million pigs reared across the EU represent the largest livestock category before that of bovines, and the EU pig meat sector alone accounts for nearly half of total EU meat production. Germany, Spain and France contribute more than half of the total amount of pig meat produced in the EU.
Bacon.

Animal agriculture still receives most EU farming subsidies, even though plant foods feed more people
no surprise here - feeding people has never been the primary purpose of EU agricultural policy
This isn’t exactly true - common agricultural policies were one of the first instated, after WW2, to ensure Europe would not starve again.
you’re right, my bad.
but – food security it’s certainly not the main driver behind political decisions anymore.
i’d argue that especially now this would actually still be the case, though i think if food prices need to remain low enough, it’s crucial that Europe green up.
that said, outside of this energy crisis, yeah, i agree.
