Yes i have an arm based chrome tablet. No longer supported by google. It’s a bit underpowered. But works fantastically with post market. Few little bits of hardware here and there not supported. Mostly camera due to device tree shenanigans since it’s mobile style hardware.

KDE touch is so close. Just falling apart on edge cases most of the time, often due to limited resolution. Honestly something like Niri under Wayland with the rest of the KDE suite might solve some of it.

I haven’t installed gentoo in 20 years. I still like arch for it’s glaring flaws. And I do like BSDs ports etc. I probably should go through a gentoo install again to see how it changed. Last time I ran it. Was on a first generation Pentium.

I’ve run arch for years as well. It happens nearly yearly. I’ve had updates break completely several times. Partial updates. That required significant manual intervention. Etc Etc Etc. Meanwhile my Debian and fedora systems haven’t had a hitch in years.

You don’t even have to use the aur are to have breaking changes. Most recently they changed how vlc was packaged. And broke it causing a lot of problems for users.

If gaming is your main goal. Bazzite or similar should likely be your first target. If you want a more desktop experience. I’d probably recommended vanilla mint. LMDE and Debian are great. But LMDE is a side project, that gets a bit less support and updates. And Debian is about stability over cutting edge anything.

Debian testing exists. It’s just not well promoted or publicly presented for that matter. But it’s not really any further behind than Ubuntu.

Also open suse tumbleweed. Is great. When you want something more up to date than fedora. But don’t want large chunks of your operating system to stop functioning randomly on an update like Arch. Because they pushed an intentionally breaking change, but nothing to fix it. And you happened not to read all 1000 change logs for the update, missing the relevant one.

I love Arch, but I wouldn’t touch it for desktop these days. I seriously don’t have the bandwidth to read 1000s of change logs every couple days. On an appliance or server? Sure. Most recently VLC stopped playing mkv files. Why?! A packaging change. Instead of a few large packages/dependencies. They were all broken out granularly. Which is fine. But since you didn’t have all the new packages installed before. All functionality moved to them just went poof. I don’t have enough fingers to count the times this sort of thing has happened over the years. It’s part of why i’m slowly transitioning to tumbleweed on most of my desktop systems from Arch.

Honestly just tinkering. Getting much modern software on it is a bit of an exercise in futility. But playing around with basic programming in a terminal can still be fascinating and a lot of fun. The concepts of the os have always interested me a lot. It as well as inferno.

Cool. I wonder how many people actually run Hurd and what the user experience and it’s cases are like. I’ve known about it for ever. But to this day I can’t say I’ve ever talked with anyone who runs it. No shade against Hurd of course. I like BeOS haiku and plan 9, so I’m certainly not trying to make a dig about user base.

While I would love this personally. I think this is still a bit of a browser support issue Etc. But yes jpeg XL please. Smaller size for similar fidelity as JPEG. Even lossless with transparencies much better sizes than PNG. Though I know there is traction on the PNG side again and they are talking of implementing something other than lzma compression. That’s still the future. Jpeg XL is here and now. Not As tied as webp is to a single company Period and not quite as esoteric as avif is.

Puberty blockers don’t do any sort of transition. They literally just block puberty. Which runs its course when the puberty blockers stop. There is no transition. But this is the thing with your type. You get indoctrinated with an concept and then imagine all sorts of crazy things to explain it.

Not even that. It was because a disingenuous psychopath raised a big stink to the payment processors that Steam and itch rely on. As long as they want to process payments they unfortunately need the companies and have to appease them. The best thing we could do is raise a bigger opposite stink.
