

Meanwhile my Seagate ST1000DM003 lasted 3 years before literally imploding during boot. That was in 2018. I renew my drives yearly now !
The diagnostic from the recovery company said defective reading heads caused ferromagnetic debris which in turn caused micro grooves ending up in defective sectors.
Of course this doesn’t say anything about the company, it is just anecdotal. Still I have never had a storage device last over 8 years
