I got really good at it in college, since I worked the morning shift at FedEx from 2-8, then had classes all day. If I didn’t develop the ability to get a nap in between classes I’d never have been able to pay attention. Can’t do it anymore though - it might’ve been that I was just exhausted enough back then to sleep on command, or maybe it’s just easier when you’re young.

Signtist@bookwyr.meto Games@lemmy.world•Is Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Worth Playing in 2025?English1·18 days agoIt was my friend’s favorite game when it came out, though I never played it myself, and he was a huge FFVII fan, so it might’ve just been viewed through rose-tinted lenses. Still, if you’re big fan like he was, I’d say you might as well give it a shot if you have the opportunity. If I recall correctly, he said it was only 5-10 hours long, so not too much of a commitment.
I used to tell a story about how my boss had to call me into his office to show him how to maximize a window after he accidentally changed its size. I had to do similarly basic instructions for several young news hires lately, and most don’t seem to be picking it up very well.
It’s less that kids are dumb with computers - since everyone’s dumb with computers when they’re inexperienced - and more that they’re as unwilling to learn as my grandma; I’ll show them how to do something, and they’ll completely forget how by the next day.
I saw computers as an exciting new thing, but the next generation seems to think of them as outdated tech.
I made a bunch of mistakes on my driving test, but they passed me anyway since my mom made me take my test on my 16th birthday and the instructor felt bad for me. I proceeded to get into 2 car accidents in my first year driving. I got pretty good at it eventually, and haven’t had any major issues since then, but I definitely would’ve benefited from a bit more practice before being given free rein.
That’s a fair point. I was thinking it was kinda like being the technical prince of the Ottoman empire or some other country that no longer exists - a neat factoid to talk about, but otherwise not really relevant.
I mean, if killing a person or making them fall in love with you are against the rules, it seems that you’re not meant to use wishes to fuck with people. Sure, Jafar does, but he’s the villain - given Genie’s good nature, I’d imagine he wouldn’t let his wishes do that unless the wisher specifically forced it, which Aladdin wouldn’t do.
Fucking with people by making them suddenly be a citizen of a completely new country, or suddenly not be the ruler of the country they previously ruled would probably be something Genie would avoid, and Aladdin wouldn’t press him on it, even if it’s not specifically covered under the quick list of rules Genie gave.
I always thought he was a “fake prince” because he was the prince of a country that didn’t exist. Like, sure, you’re the prince of this nonexistent country, see how far that gets you I guess. Otherwise Genie would either have to make new land out of nowhere somehow, or displace people who already lived/ruled in a location, which seems somewhat against the rules.

We already know AI makes stuff up and gets stuff wrong all the time. Putting it in an important position doesn’t make it any less likely to make mistakes - this was inevitable.
Signtist@bookwyr.meto Games@lemmy.world•Itch.io apologise for "frustration and confusion" after delisting thousands of NSFW projectsEnglish01·2 months ago…those are all corporations. Nationalization would make it a public service, rather than a corporate profit-driven service like how it is now.
You can bet that if libraries, for example, became privatized, we’d quickly see several different library companies pop up, each with their own paid book subscription service with exclusive partnerships with various popular authors, much like we have today with streaming platforms. Conversely, if we were to nationalize those streaming platforms, we’d likely see the service transformed to be more akin to our current library service.
It’s why the rightmost parties generally want to defund many public services and move them to the private sector - it transforms services that we spend money on to benefit the people into services that the people spend money on to benefit corporations.
They did all this because they know that the vast majority of the playerbase will never hear about this, and many of those that do will either forget, or simply not care enough to boycott the game. We’re in an age of apathy across the board, with so much bad press that any given scandal just fades into the background noise.
My door growing up couldn’t even latch, much less lock. Though I was smart enough to ask my grandma if I could have my late grandpa’s giant old desk so that I could put it in the corner of my room and nobody could see what I was looking at or doing.
