Great observation! You’re definitely not alone—people have noticed a shift in internet discourse in recent months. This is likely due to the rise of AI. Would you like to delve into the societal effects of a dead internet?

We can’t even think of an original term. We can’t think of a novel way to shit on AI. We just copy what everyone else is doing to make fun of the plagiarism machine.

There’s also zig if you want to play with memory. You’ll know a lot about allocation, that’s for sure.

Have you ever programmed an interpreter for interactive fiction / MUDs, before all this AI crap? It’s a great example of the power that even super tiny models can accomplish. NLP interfaces are a useful thing for people.
Also consider that Firefox or Electron apps require more RAM and CPU and waste more energy than small language models. A Gemma slm can translate things into English using less energy than it requires to open a modern browser. And I know that because I’m literally watching the resources get used.

mhague@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Today’s game consoles are historically overpricedEnglish38·12 days agoBut even before recent tariffs, modern console prices weren’t dropping nearly as fast as history suggested they should. In fact, Sony first raised the nominal starting price of the PS5 Digital Edition back in 2023, way before Trump’s current trade war was even on the horizon.
I’m not saying Trump is to blame but this is misleading. Trump hurt our economy with tariffs during his first term nearly 10 years ago. During 2023 he was releasing “Agenda 47” policies, in which he specifically mentioned more tariffs. Here’s Trump threatening tariffs 8 months before Sony raised the price
For regular people, Trump tariffs came out of nowhere in 2024. Corporations and people holding stock have different perspectives.

mhague@lemmy.worldto Gaming@lemmy.world•To the dismay of sweaty 'movement kids,' Battlefield 6 is nerfing Call of Duty sliding and jumping to maintain a 'traditional Battlefield experience'English0·18 days agoBattlefield players don’t play battlefield though. CoD kids do.
They added class customization and crazy weapon unlocks. Optimized for “battlefield moments” instead of “using your brain.” They need the game to be adhd friendly which left no place for the Commander system. Reloading was changed to be magic per-bullet bullshit instead of based on magazines. They’ve cultivated a culture of “look at those buildings collapse, man I hope the next battlefield is like a Michael Bay movie, oh man it’s like battlefield 1 we’re so back”
If new battlefield games are fun for you then you are more like CoD kids than people who installed realism mods for 1942.
Are you guys talking about Battlefield? A AAA fps with 128 players? With absolute bangers like 1942, Vietnam, 2142, 2, 4, and 1?
No idea why people like it. Dead franchise imo

Holy shit I didn’t hear about him
Hollow Knight seems like mainstream game industry shit to me. Solid game, massive hype, lots of sales. And I wouldn’t even remember it in a couple months if not for other people.
It’s like how Shovel Knight is a really good platformer but then you play it and it’s… just a good platformer. An indie gem! But also, something you’ve played before.
You know what AAA companies didn’t do 20 years ago? Dwarf Fortress.
