The Steam Machine and Steam Frame are probably delayed, but they still intend to release them in the first half of this year.

They said they planned to have a concrete launch window and pricing by now, but hardware pricing/shortages have made that hard to pin down.

Sam Altman is OpenAi. OpenAi is. ChatGPT. ChatGPT is “ai”. “ai” has caused a massive shortage of consumer hardware and a massive increase in price. Consumer hardware is what would be used in the upcoming SteamCube.

    So, that’s how.

He is not just any AI guy. He specifically bought out 40% (!) of the memory production of the entire world (!!), which is the direct cause of the chip shortage and skyrocketing price.

And not because his company has a specific need for it, but specifically as a market denial tactic. It turns out, if you have no meaningful way to make your product useful, but also have more money than god, you can just disrupt global supply chains until your competitors can’t compete and your unwilling market is captured.

Well, IIRC it’s not indirectly. Sam Altman negotiated pre-purchase of massive chunk of wafer supply, which OpenAI backs up with its virtual money.

So DRAM manufacturers are facing a wafer shortage in near future. Which translates into prices now.

OK, so indirectly, like in any other PC and computer industry. I thought there was a specific issue with Steam and Sam. Never mind then, I understand the issue then.
