Tusk previously vowed that in the event of a presidential veto, he would implement a “Plan B” to make use of the European funds regardless of the president. On Thursday, he called an extraordinary cabinet meeting on Friday at 9:00 am (0800 GMT) in response to the veto.

People seam to be confused. This is not Poland blocking EU defense funding. This is Polish president blocking access to EU money for Poland. It’s a internal thing affecting only Poland. There’s more money in the defense fund and other countries will access it without issues. The 40B was assigned to Poland which was supposed to be the biggest recipient but because of this veto they will most probably receive less. And it’s not a gift. EU is borrowing money and lending it to individual countries on preferential terms.
Still pretty bad for the whole of EU with Poland so close to the frontlines.

As usual. People have forgotten how much of a pain in the butt Poland can be to deal with for the EU when PiS has a say. This is a first reminder of many and it‘s important to note that poles voted for this.
Cut the money tap, Poland gets “gifted” ~4% net of its annual budget every year since accession. That sounds like the dependency that this POSPiS gentleman so fears.

From a stateist perspective with the broadly know state of the Polish army rejecting any source of finance for it is borderline treason. And his sode basically claims the problem is that we have to necesarly buy american equipment. Which they did when in goverment underminding long term programs and getting less for more, so now we have unarmed helicopters and tanks we cant roll through half of the local land features.

This is about Abrams spefically. A lot of oir infrastructure is not adjusted to their size and weight, and they might not be the best option for the local marches, swamps and thick forrests which is all of Polands east (plus some mountines to the south). Its a tank for open plains.
