Most places it illegal to have them on when not in use. Most people leave them on as a form of crash protection, like in a parking lot.

Toe hooks huh… Must be some big feet…

But even with or without hitches, their rear ends are intruding beyond their parking spots. I know that’s also a challenge with these long ass trucks, but if it were a lot designed specifically for this demographic, it should have the spots appropriate.

They’re empty and almost every tow hitch is rusty. I think if they’re used the rust would get knocked off and they’d be shiny, like the one back there. They literally just buy trucks to make themselves feel manly, I guess because they can’t any other way. Then they never use it for any of the things they argue people need trucks for.

You’re backwards. The rusty ones are the ones getting used because the load and weight cause friction that takes the chrome coating off, exposing the underlying metal to the elements that cause rust.

Normally you grease the ball to keep it from getting bad, but a lot of people don’t keep up with that part.

Because I fucking hated getting grease all over my hands, pants from accidental brushing, and just everywhere else. The rusty ball still works for more than 20 years, so I took the tradeoff.

I used to keep mine greased, got tired of getting dirty from it when it didn’t really make any difference.

All of them are so proud of their back-in parking skills thinking that space is for them. Meanwhile handicapped and children have to walk in the way of them, ironically dodging the same trucks that are so tall that they can’t be seen

This happens where I live and I keep wondering how crazy I would be to complain about it. The parking spots aren’t long enough for trucks, so they back in and completely cover the sidewalk. I need to use mobility devices to get around and usually have to fight my way through the grass because there isn’t enough room for my walker. I’m not looking forward to this fight when snow is on the ground

Yeah I think it’s time for an urbanism community here on Lemmy. I’ve been on the fence but I’m all for spreading more awareness that things like this are not normal.

Note, do not steal them, just lay them on the ground under the truck so they can retrieve it. Reality is that they almost certainly won’t look at all before leaving and never know where it went.

Nah that’s extra effort that shouldn’t be required, especially for anyone with mobility issues. Leaving it in is just asking for it to be stolen anyway. Just put it on the ground right under. Not stolen, just moved out of the way, and they’ll inevitably not check and leave it behind. Probably never even notice until they try to use it to tow something again.

I get it, but what’s the difference at that point? May as well just start collecting them. Once you get enough, sell em for scrap.

Or you could just take the pin. On the odd chance one of these clowns might actually tow something, the towbar would come out when they pull away.

The difference is effort. Just dropping it over the ground is the least effort to accomplish getting it out of the way to move by. And not going out of your way to put it someplace else. You aren’t committing a crime in the process by stealing anything. And they’re likely to not check and just leave it there anyway for a punishment later when they notice it missing.

Taking the pin out means it’s no longer secure, it could fall out on the highway, damaging an innocent vehicle following at a later date.

I don’t see any “ai-looking” things in this pic. Each hitch belongs to a truck. There are all sorts of shapes, but walk through the average Walmart parking lot and you’ll see them all.

              1. The nearest two hitches are pixel-perfect square to the camera.
              2. The tailpipe on the first truck on the right melts into a smudge.
              3. There is almost no detail in the concrete even though all the trucks are in sharp focus.
              4. All shadows have an ethereal quality and the light seems to have an inconsistent directionality.
              5. The ball on the white truck melts into the white line behind it.
              6. The green truck behind the white truck has a fender that seems to melt into a wheel.
              7. The box on the orange truck on the left seems to be about 3’ deep.

Lifted trucks have to have extensions to lower the balls so they hang the right height for trailers.

Apparently a couple of them fell in love.

different size balls for different size hitches. All hitches are removable, you can flip those over to fit different implements. Imagine that, removable, almost like there was a legal requirement they be removed while not in use.

There are different hitch ball sizes. I’ve got one lying around that has 3 ends.

The ones in the back need extensions to the ground to match their ridiculous lift kits, otherwise the trailer would tip ass backwards.

Different trailers need different size balls. If you look close those are triple/quadruple ended. Fun for the whole family.

My first thought as well. Doubt any of these have locks. I don’t understand leaving it on. I travel on an RV and remove my hitch and store it as soon as the RV is disconnected.

Imagine trying to get a shopping cart through that. I imagine that’s probably a Bass Pro Shops parking lot.

Some evil part of me would be tempted to take some chain and knit those trailer hitches together all down the line.
