Edit: I looked it up and added a link it is not in development anymore and hasn’t been for quite some time

I’m curious what you use for a “Set and forget” system. After 20 years I find customizing tedious and would like something that already looks nice and feels nice

Plop down a theme and call it a day.

I’ve had to work with them recovering accounts several times because I never learn from a mistake the first time.
Buddy you don’t know anything about me, I’m literally a camgirl, don’t call me a fucking “puritan”
Gooning isn’t just masturbating. While its absolutely healthy do make a decision to spend the whole day masturbating as a choice, spontaneously deciding on a goon sesh because someone wanted to crank one out real quick is evidence of an unhealthy relationship with sexual Self-conduct. If one cannot resist the urge to excessively masturbate, thereby damaging an Upcoming planned sexual encounter with a loved one, one can assume they have an unhealthy relationship with masturbation and should seek help if they can.
IngeniousRocks (They/She) @lemmy.dbzer0.comto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•How do you make the most of GamePass on SteamDeck?3·15 days agoAgreed, I’m not sure the Deck has the performance necessary to make it work well.
I got it running on my chrultrabook but its NOT fast (installing o365 took 6 hours for example). You’d be pretty period limited to only games prior to around 2014 based on memory limitations.
Personally? I’m a nutter, so I’d have at it just for shits and giggles to see if it’d work then immediately proceed to abuse my newfound power.

I’ve just spent the last three days setting it up to use Office365 on my laptop for school
IngeniousRocks (They/She) @lemmy.dbzer0.comto Android@lemmy.world•Those of you who install non-google-play apps (aka: sideloading), what's your gameplan for the upcoming Google restrictions on Sideloading?English0·18 days agoHonestly, last year I started a “tech reclaimation” period where I was reclaiming my time from corporate social media to free myself from the (as arctic monkeys put it) “endless stream of great tv”.
I’ve moved to selfhosting almost all my services and have gone back to physical media (except my digital backup library) for most games and movies.
The detox has been nice, I enjoy games again, I can experience boredom and all the inspiration that comes with it. Life is good. Disconnection is bliss.
IngeniousRocks (They/She) @lemmy.dbzer0.comto Games@lemmy.world•Are those of us who grew up on older games more attuned to latency?English1·18 days agoMuch of this specifically is devs implementing MSAA, which once upon a time was cheap, efficient, and looked fine. Nowadays with RT added into the mix MSAA just simply can’t function well on modern hardware, to the point where even city builders like Cities Skylines 2 will crawl to 14-15fps on low settings if you haven’t overridden the graphics pipeline to remove msaa and replace it with one that actually functions.

I don’t need to be that connected.

Honestly they probably make up so much of the training data that it’d be the easiest thing for an AI to “imagine”

Most mouse wheels can be clicked in place of the middle button, which has been removed from most modern computer mouses.
IngeniousRocks (They/She) @lemmy.dbzer0.comto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•After 2 years on Lemmy, I finally installed it this weekend.0·19 days agoWhatever you go for, make sure drivers are up to date. Anything pulling directly from the Debian repos requires manual installation for Nvidia drivers later than v525.x.x.
Not that doing so is hard, its just tedious and tbh I don’t expect the average new user to have a firm enough grasp of everything going on to handle it smoothly.
Mint is fine. Some people like Fedora, but its sluggish on some hardware. I’m a fan of my arch Based distributions personally, but I don’t recommend pure arch to a newbie (endeavor maybe, but even then expect to do a ton of reading)
If you’re looking for something to tinker and learn with, something more advanced might be good.
I usually recommend something that is immutable if you’re looking for a set and forget system that won’t require much (if any) tinkering.
In my house we use Arch, LMDE, and FreeBSD (do not recommend unless you prefer to live at a terminal)
Upgrade will upgrade the system to whatever is newest in your package cache. If, for example, you’ve just performed a partial upgrade and put yourself into an unsupported state, running
upgrade
without first runningupdate
will put your system back in line with itself. There probably almost never a reason for this, but its the equivalent of running
pacman -u
which under normal circumstances you will never do

This means turning a raspberry pi into the best media access client there is for a TV takes like 20-40 minutes (install librelec, profit?)
20+ years in, I just use the tool I know will get the job done.
LMDE on the laptops.
Arch on the media/gaming rig.
OpenBSD on the writing machine.
