  • It’s not woman-exclusive and also the companies deciding the sizing are not the same as the companies running department stores (for large clothing brands these days, online shopping in their own store would be optimal, since retailers take a large cut).

It’s mainly that making sure sizes are actually the same costs more money than just going with whatever comes out, and it’s hard to make purchasing decisions based on size consistency once a large amount of brands do this.

  • While yes, the key thing is that at any point either party can say “nope no longer wanna do this”, it’s still a hierarchy, but it is mutually agreed upon. (Also, in reality, the sub has the ultimate control in bdsm because of the safe word, and if they don’t something is very wrong)

Static unchangable hierarchies are what no one enters voluntarily (at the low end that is).

Even outside of bdsm, it can make perfect sense to establish a hierarchy for e.g. faster response times, or because one person is far more knowledgable about something. It’s just important that the people on the lower end can always end it.

  • Ever since I saw that the grocery store near the train station in my city (which is famously one of the worst in the country in terms of crime) had self checkout without even a gate to scan your receipt for a while (they added it now) and has the handheld scanners, I’ve been assuming that the added theft from either really can’t be that bad, or is a result of poor security. Clearly it’s worth it for the higher customer throughput for that store, so I kinda doubt it could be that bad especially in safer areas.

  • Self checkout is the greatest thing ever and I will never understand why so many people seem to prefer waiting in line for a few minutes instead of just using the self checkout.

No human interaction, usually faster because I don’t have to wait. What’s not to love? Sure occassionally you might get selected for a random check and have to wait a bit, but that still beats the line.

They used to be awful here 10-15 years ago, with a scale for your scanned items that would complain over nothing all the time, but now everywhere I’ve been has done away with that in favor of random controls and the receipt for opening the gate. I think my highlight so far was the clothing store where you didn’t even have to scan, you just put your items in a box and it told you what you have to pay.

  • I’ve bounced off some fights way more than that. It’s not even about not getting what to do, my concentration just dies and I also get greedy (or in the case of margit in elden ring was insanely underleveled on top of that). Playing claire obscure on the highest difficulty while ignoring defense isn’t very different in terms of dodging difficulty, but since I couldn’t really get greedy and my brain can go off on a journey on my own turn it was pretty smooth and much less frustrating for me.

I do agree souls games aren’t super difficult, but they are unforgiving and if concentration isn’t your strong suit that will fuck you relentlessly. I still enjoy them personally though I’ve never completed one, there’s always some area that just annoys me too much to bother after a bit.

Iirc the hard part is that not all protein is the same, and your body needs a variety to actually be able to use it which is near impossible to get solely from unprocessed plant based foods. So, modern chemistry to the rescue.

(This is what I remember from like an hour of research a few months back so correct me if I’m wrong)

  • It’s a great tool for the right tasks. What’s annoying is that it’s marketed as being a great tool for tasks it can barely do.

It has really sped up the process of writing things in languages I’m unfamiliar with. All the stupid little mistakes it will find much faster than trying to google them. As long as you’re critical of the answers I also found it pretty good at explaining how to do things. It will often get some details wrong but as long as you have general programming ability and access to documentation you can usually figure those out somewhat easily.

  • You kind of can’t. Caloric intake from food varies by person, as does energy use. You can use a calculator for a ballpark measure and then see how it works out for your weight.

Type of food can also matter, because depending on your stomach bacteria, you will also get different energy value from different foods. I thought an easy way for me to lose weight would be to stop eating sweets (since i prob averaged around 500kcal nominal value per day), but nope I ended up gaining weight, probably from eating slightly more normal food. What I found works for me was delaying each meal for longer so I end up eating one large and one smaller meal per day. Going to bed slightly hungry then I usually wake up not hungry and it takes a few hours before I feel the need to eat something, etc.

I even once lost weight drinking about 2 liters of choccy milk per day but eating a lot less regular food, though I wouldn’t recommend that because that much sugar is terrible for you anyway. Far worse than being a bit overweight, probably.
