This sounds like the GDP meme:

Two programmers are coding in a terminal when they come across a board of scrum tasks.

The first programmer says to the other “I’ll pay you $100 to vibe code that task.” The second programmer takes the $100 and vibe codes the scrum task using their favorite AI.

They continue coding until they come across a code review from the senior dev, rejecting the pull request. The second programmer turns to the first and says “I’ll pay you $100 to clean up that vibe code”. The first programmer takes the $100 and cleans up the vibe code, using actual skill and no AI.

Coding a little more, the first programmer looks at the second and says, “You know, I gave you $100 to vibe code, then you gave me back the same $100 to clean it up. I can’t help but feel like we both just used AI for nothing.”

“That’s not true”, responded the second programmer. “We fed the AI our code so it would be even smarter next time!”

Narrator: it never did and will never get smarter.

  • I’ve seen Pine64 mentioned online with reference to their Pinephone and Pinephone Pro. Thought I saw somewhere that they’re planning on discontinuing the Pro for one reason or another. Wonder what that means for their business.

The PineCube you mentioned has been tested as a webcam. It looks like the max resolution the cam supports is 1080p, but the frame rate is horrendous at 3-5 fps.

Luckily, Pine64 seem to be developing a successor to the PineCube, the PineCam, as of November of last year. Their documentation of the device seems lacking compared to the PineCube. Not sure if the device is still in development or what. I’ll have to check their socials to see what’s up.

If they roll out that PineCam though, that looks sick! Thanks for the tip!

  • I play games mostly on my Steam Deck after migrating from Xbox. Didn’t want to pay for Internet access to use the Internet I already pay for (Xbox Live).

Battlefield games like BF1 and BF4 used to run on the Deck about a year ago, but then EA toggled something and disallowed any and all Linux distros. Can’t remember their reasoning, but something something anti-cheat.

Now me, a paying customer, was fucking pissed. I purchased these games on my Steam Deck to avoid corporate walled gardens like the Xbox, and then EA lock me out of my purchase after the refund period had elapsed. What the fuck???

So I started dual booting Windows 10 on the Deck to regain access to a product I had paid for. Fucking shit I had to do this in the first place.

But now I need to enable Secure Boot to play the new shit, and I have no clue how to do this without bricking my Deck. I’m an engineer, but not the software type. I don’t want to fuck around with my gear just to play games.

Client-side AC is a poor solution to cheating that can be solved with server-side AC.

Fuck EA. Fuck M$. Fuck all the corporations that want to run spyware on my devices
