Garbage trucks and firetrucks are pretty much the only trucks in the US built on reasonably compact chassis without that useless stupendously long hood in front of the cab.
Firetrucks in the US are not built compact. The fire departments regularly argue for larger streets so that they can move their gigantic rigs around faster.
