I wonder if I can get them to delete of the shit they took from my fucking comp already? I moved to Linux mint a short while ago and despite some minor limitations, I haven’t looked back since.

If only there was some sort of movement of gracious people willing to donate their expertise and time to write software and allow the users to fully control it by giving away the source code. That’d fix everything!

So basically, if you’re sawing trees with a blunt saw and somebody suggests sharpening the saw, you’ll say “I can’t, I got trees to cut!”?

            Almost.

Imagine youre cutting trees with an axe and someone tells you theres a tool out there that can do it better, but you have to learn how to use it to become efficient with it. And you dont have time to learn new tool because capitalism says you have to have that tree cut down right now.

There is never a good time to change things. You just have to start somewhere. And I’m not saying everybody should do it right now. But the more people do it the quicker we build critical mass.

That may have been true for Linux 10 years ago, but now it is easier to install than Windows, and much faster to install. It may mean the axe handle is a different colour, but it chops the same or better.

I’m assuming from this smug nonsense that you’d be able to fix your car if anything went wrong, right? What about if something structurally went wrong in your home? If you don’t understand how an MRI machine works you better not get medical care!

What an absolutely brain dead take on what people should and shouldn’t be doing with their time.

I installed Pop OS on my ten year old laptop two days ago. I’m not sure it’s my forever distro, but it’s running fine now that I got the right nvidia driver set up. In any case, now that I’ve gone through the process, I feel a lot more confident that I can build a Linux desktop instead of buying a PS6 in a few years. I’ll probably go AMD to simplify the setup.

A lot of stuff does run.

      • Steam (proton)
      • Heroic Launcher (Epic Games, Gog, Prime gaming)
      • Wine for additional Windows based Programs

The only Thing that I do Miss, is Anti-Cheat Software for some games. Thats the only reason to keel dualboot, to Launch that Games on Windows. Besides that - screw Windows.

Try Lutris - it integrates with the GOG store so will fetch and install the games from there, with proper scripts to configure Wine so that the game just works with no extra configuration (i.e. with works like the Steam launcher does for the Steam store).

I believe Heroic Launcher does the same, but I’ve just settled down to use Lutris and Steam so never go around to test Heroic.

they’ve got all the telemetry to infer what you’re doing and what your screen looks like

But for some reason, they still need to screenshot dudes fucking up excel spreadsheets and lowballing people on Facebook marketplace for 8 hours

I doubt their telemetry (if enabled) is good enough for targeted ads. Recall can give them a massive amount of information from your entire screen, it’s a massive improvement for them.

As a millenial, I never understood this. Back when we were having LAN parties, we always shared our porn, so I know what pretty much everyone I care about tosses their salad to and they do know what I get off on as well. I’m impervious to that sort of blackmail, it’s like a superpower.

This is why religious people hate the love who you want movement. Sexual shame or guilt is an extremely strong way to control someone. If you aren’t ashamed of who you are then blackmail like this doesn’t work.
