    Sigh.

Well world. Hope you’re ready to devote a bunch of resources and lives to stomping out fascism again.

Didn’t even make it 1 century.

There’s two things i can’t stand in this world: people that are intolerant of other people’s cultures, and the Dutch collaborators.

Like one guy did a seig heil with his left hand of all things, and the rest are just waving at best. I think saying they’re all giving up the nazi salute is a bit hyperbolic, don’t you?

Following this story for a few days, the way I understand it it means that they decided to start some process that will determine whether the Dutch Antifa is a terrorist organisation. This already failed in 2016 and I haven’t heard anything “terrorist” from them since or before.

My guess is it has something to do with protecting landlords.

shortly after their cabinet votes to designate Antifa as a terrorist organisation.

But they voted to look into it right? Right??

    • They did. The cabinet also didn’t vote on this, the Tweede Kamer (the “House” for English speakers) did. The cabinet doesn’t have the power to unilaterally make this designation, it has a specific definition by law which almost certainly would get challenged in courts and revoked (Dutch courts aren’t political appointees so hard to influence).

As a Brit, it’s comforting to know that other countries are also sliding towards racism. At least we won’t be alone!

As an American, it makes me wonder if the different fascists are going to fight amongst themselves or band together. All the different extreme my-country-first-supremacy parties are just dumb, desperate people who are quick to fight and slow to learn.

And then I remember that humans have only had the modern scientific method for like a hundred years. And even things like twelve tone equal temperament music is only a couple hundred years older than that.

Like, we are all basically still apes, fresh out of the caves with our fire and our smartphones, keeling over from corn syrup and trying to hide being afraid of our own shadows.

It’s no wonder we can’t get away from dumb shit like racism, tribalism, and amygdala hijacks. And here comes war, rearing her ugly head again. Fuck.

Since the ruling class figured out they need to overthrow the whole world to “avoid a third world war”, they are making it global, except there’s one small problem: it will lead to a third world war, due to territorial revisionisms American white nationalists like to pretend don’t exist, old conflicts being reignited by jingoism, etc. White people won’t unite under their skin color, but under their nationality.

Also China is not much better, they have just perfected the science of Stalinism.

It’s a very odd kind of comfort, especially because it comes with the certainty that, this time, there won’t be any outside help against the Nazi scum.

this time, there won’t be any outside help

There wasn’t outside help for Germany either. Until the war, the disabled, socialists, lgbtq and colored people will live in terror, if at all.

There is still an outside. China has to be contained. There will be war. If China wins, and depending on how much our image of China is propaganda, that could be liberation.

China famously does not have an incumbent fascist problem, and the west famously chooses to oppose China geopolitically. What the commenter above you said is correct.

Jfc, “at least it’s not as bad” is a horrendous excuse to endorse a government that has committed genocide.

How about you grow a spine and reject fascism properly instead of just rebounding from one authoritarian to another.

Trail of Death. We have been endorsing such a government all the time, which made the recent development possible instead of giving them the opportunity to change.

How would you create a government that doesn’t concentrate power permanently in a group of people in some form or another?

They did suppress early reports on the coronavirus by Chinese medical personnel and scientists, allowing the (initially localised) epidemic to grow into a worldwide pandemic due to belated and half arsed response pretty much everywhere.

Also, China is spiraling increasingly towards a fascist regime as well. Their “communist” party is communist in nothing but name.

My mom and I are German, though at that point in time I didn’t even have any relation to Germany at all, other than having a German passport. It was nice growing up in Amsterdam, but some people just really, really hated the Germans. I just remember my Dutch teacher, Vincent Koetsier, who talked about a tragic accident in which a bus full of tourists drove off a cliff or something and everyone on board was dead. After a couple of seconds of silence he just went “fortunately most of them were Germans” just to top it off with a classy “gore rotmoffen”. He knew my mom and I were German.

The good thing about this is, that the younger generations and my classmates were shocked by his behavior and reported him. He never returned to school after that day.

But yeah, our car had a German license plate in the first year of living there. I stopped counting the amount of times our windows were broken.

The 90s were crazy. Still loved it and I truly miss the Netherlands.

It’s kind of ironic, blaming all Germans for the Nazis is in itself a form of nationalism. A sad reminder of how shitty human brains are at actually learning from history.
